These guys get no love, and I don’t understand it.
This past summer I was in Calgary visiting my dad and I got the opportunity to check out a MSTRKRFT show while I was in town. Calgary’s venues are pretty hurtin’ but the set was sick nonetheless (those guys plow through crazy amounts of booze on stage). Anyways, the guys that opened for them were a local group, Small Town DJs (which I’ve just come to refer to as Small Town), and I gotta say for the record that these guys killed it. I feel as though its my duty to spread the word about these Calgary locals as much as possible.
Its most definitely a different style than MSTRKRFT, they use a lot more old school funk and 80’s pop in there mixes, but they tore that shit down nonetheless. Anyways, here’s one of there older mix tapes that I wanted to put up for all of you to share in. Hope you enjoy.
i went to that show!Through crazy stalking of one unmentioned band member i got to get backstage access. and stole alcohol. and sunglasses. nonetheless small town dj’s killed it.
thats cool… I was on the floor and it was too packed to go anywhere so I didn’t get back stage… great show though, definitely keeping an eye open if they come to Toronto
