Set your weekend off right!

Posted in in da mix, music by Mo on December 5, 2008

Here’s a Market Fresh mixtape for the weekend (I think I might start doing this once a week); for your predrinks, house jams, car rides into the city and for those who like to rock out at the libs:

Brooklyn Go Hard – Jay-Z and Santogold

Hey – The Pixies (Diplo\’s Devil remix)

Sex on Fire – Kings of Leon (Tenzin remix)

I\’m a Rope – Tommy Sparks (Yuksek remix)

Scarlett Johanson vs. Magic Spells – Mystic Mountains mashup

Pocket Piano – Dj Mehdi (Brodinski remix)

Under the Sun – Kidda (Herve remix)

Licky – Larry T feat. Princess Superstar (Herve goes low remix)

Fancy Footwork – Chromeo (Death to the Throne remix)

edit: I was fixing one of the links and was listening to the Santogold/JayZ track. Is it me or did Jay-Z just switch to Lil Wayne’s rap style?

Another homebrew jam! The Cheese Is Amazing

Posted in music by Mo on November 15, 2008

Like our Youg Jeezy featured on this track, I am indeed “on my jock”.

I mixed Kanye’s new track So Amazing over some Deadmau5 (The Reward is More Cheese):

The Cheese Is Amazing (Mo Money bootleg mix)

On a side note, I don’t know what to call these things. I know what a remix and a mashup are, but I can’t tell the difference between a re-edit, a bootleg (a term I believe was used alot in the nineties) and all those other kooky terms used in electrobloghausmusik. I just think they sound cool.

PS: I feel so gross today, and I just realized we have a bag of 200 poorly packed native cigarettes sitting in our living room. At least it was for a good cause. Also, my brain is on Neutral, just kinda rolling down the street…

Wassup! Show Me Love! (Mo Money Mix)

Assignments have been kicking my ass but I’m buzzed which means I have time to post. And I am nursing an indigestion from scarfing down my Nachos too fast.

First off, my new Show Me Love / DJ Sega mix is up on ZShare.

Wassup! Show Me Love! (Mo Money re-edit)

Second, I’ve noticed alot of Joustices (aka Crystal Castles in Canada) on campus recently: dark blue skinny jeans, hoodies and black leather jackets. Is this the new style?

I don’t dress like a Joustice. I thought Texan farmers or 1920’s Eastern Europe was the next big thing. Being cool is tough. When I was younger, being cool meant doing what everyone else did (and for three glorious months in 1993, that meant wearing your clothes backwards and rocking sneakers that lit up when you walked). When you get older you have to do the opposite and be indie (but not too indie or people think you’re weird). It’s like the stock market: buy low, sell high. Now that Justice is popular in Woodbreeeeedge, does that mean they suck? What will post-banger music sound like? I hope it’s more BMore gutter, 90’s pop and electronica and reggaeton (can we steal that from the yo’s for good?).

Hey Bro, this Just Ice is almost as good as Tiesto!

Finally, people have really stepped up their cannon trashing game this year. Bio Med did a great cannon trash today if anyone caught it. It was red with “Let’s Play Doctor!” in white and a HUGE NOVELTY SIZED stethoscope at the end! And if the rumor is true that some first years want to stick a bunch of used tampons on the cannon, I might have to camp out and pull a Death Wish 4 on some fools!

We don’t listen to techno

The pic above is from last Saturday’s Delta Upsilon formal after party. Two of my good friends greco-roman wrestled. The smaller guy got atomic wedgied. I played a small impromptu DJ set off of Hype Machine which ended with a TV stand being smahedĀ  into itty bitty pieces.

Jon and I were so hyped we were on the road to DJ superstardom that we spent hours compiling and mixing this for a jam we were attending in Waterloo a few Satrudays ago. It never did end up getting played. Whatever, that’s what zShare is for.

You got the Juice now

Posted in music by Mo on November 11, 2008

This is the first live mix I recorded with Ableton this fall. After recording this in my bedroom, I felt like Omar Epps from the scene in Juice where he’s in his bedroom recording his DJ set to cassette for the bigĀ  competition.

You can cop it here.
